Ducks to the Rose Bowl!!!

15 years ago, I watched as Kenny Wheaton made the play that changed the sad path the Ducks were going down....This play was the turning point! I remember sitting under the score board, standing as he reached up at the 1 yard line, intercepted the ball and started running. I was jumping up and down and screaming, I almost fell of the bench I was standing on! He was running right toward us, and there was no one behind him. When he scored the touchdown, the only person on the field to celebrate with was a cheerleader, as everyone else was FAR behind him. It was an amazing play that will always be remembered. It is a play that is now affectionately known as "The Pick," it is shown before every single home game, and the crowd goes wild!

Before this play, the Ducks played to small crowds and did little to impress. I was there, I watched them get trampled every week. There were so few people there, that in the general admission section, you could lay down and bask in the sun!

After this play, the entire stadium is packed each week and if we were still in the same general admission seats, we would be packed in!

The season that all this happened was 1994. Since then we have seen amazing players and plays go through Autzen. I've followed them to the Rose Bowl on New Years 1995 and to the Fiesta Bowl in 2001--where they ended the year as #2 in the country! After 18 years of season tickets, my family and I have seen it all come back around....after a nail biting civil war game, which for the first time in history was for the Roses, they are heading back to the Rose Bowl this year!!!

I am looking forward to seeing them play Ohio State (though this time I won't be there), and I think that they can pull this off! We shall see on New Year's Day 2010, when the Ducks head down to Pasadena. And here's the song that got all Duck fans geared up!!
